Roval's CLX 50 Balances Aerodynamics and Handling

Roval's CLX 50 Balances Aerodynamics and Handling

A genuine quiver-killer, the CLX 50 pairs a carefully designed rim profile with DT Aerolite bladed spokes. It is aerodynamically superior to many deeper rims, yet retains superb real-world handling, is light enough to climb with authority, and has racked up more pro wins than any other wheel—from Paris-Roubaix to World Championships to Grand Tour stages.

Tires are (finally) getting wider as riders everywhere begin to accept their superior efficiency and comfort benefits. The inner rim width of the CLX 50 is 21mm, which makes it perfect for supporting new-school rubber, and the rim’s aerodynamic profile has been carefully shaped to optimize efficiency around wider tires.

The CLX 50 tests faster than shallow rims in ALL conditions, even heavy crosswinds. Aerodynamically, it outperforms many deeper-section aero rims without suffering the weight and handling drawbacks associated with deeper wheels. At 200-grams lighter than the closest competition, the CLX 50 is an incredible all-conditions choice.

The Aero Flange hubs found on each CLX 50 wheelset are the basis of this fast, strong, light, slippery wheel. Aerodynamically optimized, with wide-bracing angles for increased strength and reduced spoke weight, they also feature ultra-smooth CeramicSpeed bearings and the refined precision of DT Swiss 240 freehub internals.

As befitting a premium wheelset, there is no skimping on the details here. Roval's Aero Flange hubs are hand laced with DT Aerolite bladed spokes, which test measurably faster than round spokes. Note the paired spoke lacing pattern, proprietary to our system-designed wheels. This 2:1 pattern emphasizes strength on the drive side of the wheel where all the torque forces are applied, with half as many spokes on the non-drive side ensuring the lightest possible weight and maximum aerodynamic benefit.
